Happy Hurricane Monday to you! I've just paddled to an internet connection and thought I'd send this out before my canoe floats out of WiFi range...

The Danish philosopher and poet Soren Kierkegaard wrote:
"There are two ways to be fooled.
One is to believe what isn't true.
The other is to refuse to accept what is true."

With over a decade of having the blessing and responsibility of coaching people one on one and in groups this statement rings true to why many folks do not get the body they desire and deserve. Today's microwave "I want it now with as little work as possible" culture makes it hard for us to sometimes believe that there is no such thing as instant results. One workout at the gym won't change your body just like eating one slice of cake won't either. The truth is that life and getting into the shape you desire to be in for your life takes consistent effort in creating and maintaining habits that serve you towards that goal. Truth - it is not easy. Simple? Yes. Easy? No.
If it were easy, everyone would be in shape. We are all busy with family, with friends, with work, heck with life! That isn't about to change for most of us. Truth be told the longer we live the busier we tend to get which is why it is so important to carve out daily time to building habits to create the body you desire and deserve. That means making time 4-6 days per week for physical activity and eating well 80% of the time (and by well I mean good foods and proper portions for the shape you desire to be in). So don't let the infomercials and the "get ripped in 5 days" ads fool you. And don't let the folks who tell you that "you'll never change so why bother" fool you either. You can have the body you desire & deserve. It'll just take simple & consistent work.
Go get it.

This week's body weight circuit is a simple one: Burpee's!
Complete as many as you can in 1 min, rest for 1 min.
Complete 3-10 sets recording the number of burpee's you get each time. Then aim to beat your round & total numbers for the next workout!
Complete 3-5 of these workouts this week to stoke your conditioning and get you en route to a stronger, leaner and healthier body!
Bless.

And remember
"Repetition breeds strength."

Untitiled (A response). ©

The "courage" found in anonymity reveals either the cowardice of the messenger or their lack of belief in their message. If we've something to say worth saying - something in which we truly believe, why wouldn't we sign ourselves to our words?... In any case, if my words or my way of life offends you, I apologize:

I apologize
If I say things you don't like
I'm just sharing my opinion
I'm not looking for a fight
But my eyes are open wide
And my fists I'll hold up high
If you attack those I love
You'll see my dark side
Peaceful man
But I walk with a purpose
Are you upset
Cause I know what my worth is?
Cause I know we ain't worth less
Cause I won't accept any less
Than all that I desire?
Or is it the call to something higher?
Or maybe you just like to play with fire?
No matter
On earth
Or above
Will ever stop me
From pursuing what I love.

Hidden Treasure. ©

I see you
But I can't yet see you
And I sure as heck
Can't wait to meet you
To hold Your little frame
You carrying my name
To watch You being you
But being like me at the same
Time
Is what I'll have to wait
And even though
There is a sort of date
Of the day
That we will actually meet
Where I'll kiss you gently
From head to feet
I know
You need time to grow
And though the time seems like forever
I'll take that time
To take all needed measure
To prepare a path for you
My hidden treasure

Love. Relationship. Knowledge. Enlightenment. Money. Physique. Freedom.

In order to attain what the masses do not have one must passionately & lovingly execute a plan with a resolve that the masses do not display.
Simply? Yes.
Easy? Not even a little bit.

Good luck and great love on your journey, I know I take a hearty portion of both on mine.
Bless.

Mark Sparks' Fitness Newsletter (Oct 9 2012) Courtesy of S.P.A.R.K.S Conditioning

G'morning & a great day to you.
To all my Canadian readers I hope that the weekend of thanksgiving was an amazing time spent with family & friends over good food & filled with joyous holiday memories to last 'til Christmas!

One of the habits that I practice at thanksgiving is to make a list as long as I am years old for the things in my life worth giving thanks for. Most years I've no problem filling my gratitude list. One thing that I am so very grateful for is my physical ability to do the things I love to do. But that didn't just come by accident. I remember a few times in my life where I was laid in a hospital under the watchful eye of doctor or surgeon who's advice to me was to give up sports & the level of activity which I so loved. Thankfully I didn't believe them. And thankfully I found a team of people who believed in me. The rest, as they say, is history but know this - don't believe those who say you cannot. Surround yourself with people who encourage & enable you to achieve your goals & make getting into (or back into) the shape you deserve & desire not only a possibility but a probability. And whatever your plan, start today!!!

This week's circuit.
In 30 second intervals with no rest complete as many reps as you can of the following:
*Push ups
*Squats
*Ab crunches
*Ab plank
*Jumping Jacks
Complete 4-10 sets adding a set each day. And start today.
I wish you joy on your journey,
Mark

The Offer. ©

A poetic reiteration of a real life conversation.
Thank you for reading,
Mark Sparks

This woman stood there
Waiting for a"Let's go" response from me
Instead I replied  "I've Got A Lady"
She smiled and said "So?!"
I Said "I Love Her, So You Can Leave"
And She quickly replied "No."
I Said "Here's A happy photo Of Us & our little Fam"
She said "Oh."
I Smiled And She Finally Realize She Had To Go...
I thought I'd be sitting all alone
Then she decided to take a seat
"My name is blah blah blah blah blah
And you it is my pleasure to meet."
"Umm, thank you" I said with a half smile
Feeling where this was gonna lead
"I've actually got a lot to do
I've got this script I've got to read."
"Oh, your an actor
That makes sense cause I knew I've seen you before
But forget about tv and magazines
I would like to see more"
"I'm flattered Madame, I truly am
But there's something you need to know
I've got a lady and I've found my soul mate
So there's no place for this to go."
"But I'm only in town Like 4 times a year..."
"Umm, okay, let me be more clear.
No way in hell am I cheating
You and me ain't gonna be
Again I've been blessed with a gem
Even a blind man could see."
"Sigh, I can't believe you're saying no
You're bent on this 'I'ma be faithful' kick,
Well understand I don't want to take your 'Queens' place
I just want to feel her King's dick."
"Alright Ms. I didn't get your name
Nor do I particularly care
Our pleasant conversation is done now
So would you kindly leave that chair."
"Pfftt, your loss" She said as she left
"But I'll see you again one day.
Oh, and for the record,
You've got one lucky lady."
I smiled and nodded as she left
If only to be polite
But the one thing that I knew more than any
Was that I couldn't wait to see my girl that night.
I got home late, after some drinks
She fell asleep on the couch
Waiting up for me
"My lady is a luck girl I thought"
As I watched her sleep,
Picked her up and carried her to bed & thought
Nah. The lucky one is me.

Mark Sparks' Fitness Newsletter (Oct 2 2012) Courtesy of S.P.A.R.K.S Conditioning

Good Morning! Hope that you enjoyed a great weekend and magnificent start to October.

As October starts we are prone to begin to think about... about... The holiday seasons. Celebration time!
With thanksgiving (both American and Canadian) fast approaching the next holiday we begin to focus on celebrating is Christmas and then, dare I say it, New Years.
You remember last January? If you are anything like me (and honestly like most people) you made fitness resolutions. You may not have called them resolutions, you may have called them fitness goals or just some weight you wanted to loose or 6 pack you wanted to gain. Well 10 months into the year, how have you done?
The good news? You've got two months left in the year to create some great habits that will catapult you towards the body you deserve & desire.
Whatever your fitness goal, training hard, training smart and training often can make can achieving them not only possible but probable!
Training smart means keeping track of where you're at so that you can measure and manage progress. So for this week's workout keep track of how many reps of each exercise you get for each round you do. Soon enough you'll be looking at yourself and seeing exactly what you set out to achieve. And that's something worth celebrating!

Your circuit for this week is the following.
Push ups x 15 seconds
Ab plank x 30 seconds
Jumping Jacks x 45 seconds
Squats x 30 seconds
Rest one minute and complete 3 to 7 sets

Great luck on your journey,
Bless.
Mark
