Poem - Standing At The Alter. ©

I use to be obsessed with being first.
Now, that I cannot be,
I know that I will be Your last
And know I'll never
Worry 'bout Your past
Cause without that
We wouldn't be ready to be here
Filled with love
No fear
Standing in front of God
And all the people that are here
To witness the birth of a new life
You and I
Husband and Wife
For life
Forever
I'll never
Do any of that stuff I ain't supposed to do
I'll die before I break my committment to You
True
We'll have some exploring
In the darkest parts of our souls to do
And true
We'll have some challenges to live through
But with You
I promise, I vow
To stand by You
Like I do right now
And as God as my witness
With all these people sitting here to hear this
Into our life the next chapter I dive in
Cause You're all I see
And what You mean to me
Is more than I can say standing here
So I trade You this ring
For the rest of my years
Before I kiss Your lips I need to hear two words from You:
I do.

A Woman's Worth (Real Woman & Real Men)... ©

Today, I heard a few young ladies grooving to this song by Alicia Keys entitled "A Woman's Worth", and adding their own comments which were cute. They especially got into the track during the first part of the chorus:

"Cause a real man, knows a real woman when he sees her.
And a real woman knows a real man ain't afraid to please her..."

The thing that blows me away is they, like many woman I've seen getting down to this track, leave out the passion when singing the next line of the chorus:

"And a real woman knows a real man always comes first..."
Why. ladies, does he come first? Well;
"a real man just can't deny a woman's worth."

In the age of "I can do this by myself" and "me first. Always.", it isn't hard to deduce why many relationships don't work. I mean, if we as men cannot truly understand a woman's worth then how can we treat her with the love, respect, trust, faith, dignity, sensuality, patience, and humility that she deserves? Exactly we can't. And no one is going to stick around for too long if they keep getting "less than they're worth". On the flip side, ladies, if you are so bent on protecting yourself from him and "being strong and independent" (thanks Beyonce) then how on earth are you going to put him first? Exactly you won't. And the nature of a man is that he, shoot we, need to be pedestaled from (frequent) time to time. Yes, we need our ego's stroked, our decisions to be trusted, our choices supported, our sexuality acknowledged, our fires smoldered and so on and so forth.
So to the real men, show her you know her worth. Consistently. Trust me, it'll pay dividends called a flourishing relationship.
And real women, put that real man first. Trust me, it'll ring nicely...
Just saying...

Poem - How Can You?©

How can you be a deadbeat
If you're still alive?
How can you say you failed
If you just decide not to try?
How can you have faith
Without actions to make it grow
How can you say you can't
If really you don't even know?
How can anyone believe you
If what you say is rarely true?
How can others buy into what you're selling
If you don't believe it too?
How can you pray to your God who loves
And then turn & spew hate?
How can your work ethic be mediocre
While you say you desire to be great?
How can you cry out that you hope to change
But stay doing the exact same thing?
And Brothers, how you call her "wifey"
Without committing to her with a ring?
How can we ensure that we never
Repeat mistakes of the past?
And if we don't know our own history
How can we make our freedom last?
How can we choose to enslave ourselves
Yet demand the world sets us free?
How can we grow as a community
If we are only thinking of "me"?
How can we say we desire truth from others
Yet lie so often to ourselves
How can we yearn for heaven when we pass
But choose to imprison ourselves in a living hell?
How can you wish only for the best
But always expect the worst?
And how can you expect to be given love
If you don't live in love first?
M.
