Recently I was speaking to someone and the topic of hypnosis came up and they didn't really believe in it. I thought for a moment and we spoke about what hypnosis isn't and is. It is not the "and now I will make you quack like a duck" variety show tricks that we are so accustomed to thinking about, it's much simpler than that. Hypnosis simply means to influence, direct or control. Parents, beliefs, emotions, friends, fears, marketers, routines & habits all do that. We are constantly being influenced and directed to do or not do things unconsciously and by outside sources - why not choose to use that knowledge to create to serve us instead?
Just a thought that evolved into a poem
M.
Hypnotized by the thoughts in our minds
Hypnotized by advertisers lies
Hypnotized by false realities
Hypnotized to be who we "ought" to be
Hypnotized by magazines to believe real skinny is "in"
Hypnotized that to be beautiful a woman's got to be thin
Hypnotized to think a Man's gotta throw money in the air
Hypnotized to think it's cool to just not really care.
Hypnotized by the boundaries other people put on us
Hypnotized to believe "I can't" more than "I must"
Hypnotized that's it's a waste of time to dream the "impossible dream"
Hypnotized to keep a woman we've got to be mean
Hypnotized by all sorts of things that we do not choose
So why not hypnotize yourself to know that you can't loose?
As for me? Well...
I don't care that you say "it's not realistic"
I don't care if you think my realities twisted
I'm not too concerned you don't believe in my dream
All I can really tell you is wait, watch and see.
I don't ever feel I've got to "prove myself" to you
Cause I know that's not what God has me here to do.
And even as my path keeps changing in front of me
All I can really tell you is wait, watch and see.
With love in my heart I wish you so much joy
The same kind found in the hearts of playing girls and boys
As for me? I am the Man that I hoped to be
All I can really tell you is wait, watch and see.
And I pray that you find something better in your life
Than hating yourself and living in strife
And know whatever it is you really desire to be
All I can really tell you is believe, work and see.

"Chivalry Is Dead"
A hot topic indeed as the season of "love" (or as others call it "Spring") rolls close. In recent weeks I've had several conversations with friends, clients, people who have sat across in the interview chair from me and at a panel I recently spoke at. I mean a friend of mine recently wrote a poem outlining the death of Chivalry.
My reply to her poem was this:
Chivalry is not dead
Though dormant in your life it may be
For this noble trait of Chivalry
Ride in hand with men such as me.
Nobility and valor
Are traits many men still carry
But the rise of "feminism"
Has forced many men to be wary
Cautiously approaching a femme
Who yearns to remain strong
Who when you say "ladies first"
She replies as if He were wrong.
Chivalry is not dead
Though dormant in many lives it may be
Many Men yearn to attain the qualities of knighthood
Perhaps a return to femininity is the key.
Now the dictionary describes chivalry as "the qualities idealized by knighthood". A further look at a knight, particularly one who was revered or idealized, would reveal that he possessed a certain set of characteristics such as honor, bravery, gallantry (note noble minded and exceptionally polite & attentive) & dedication to name a few. Another look at the lifestyle of the knight would indicate that the woman he interacted with were strong women yet not afraid of allowing their feminine charm to shine through. The possessed, as ladies of the court, a certain level of - well feminine charm. Long after knighthood has all but disappeared we still hold on to the third part of their code. Is the current state of it "missing" have as much to do with the men who are not learning it as the woman who make it hard for a man to practice it?
Just a thought
